Helpdesk
MET IT Helpdesk is your central point of contact for requesting IT services and for asking all Information Technology-related questions.
You can contact us using any of the means listed below and we will respond in a timely manner. If your issue cannot be resolved immediately over the phone, your request will be forwarded to the appropriate MET ITS staff member for immediate review and follow up.

PC Support
MET IT stands ready to assist with the operation of all faculty and staff computers at MET. Contact the helpdesk to report problems or schedule appointments for technical support either via email to METIT@BU.EDU
Please understand that we are unable to support home computers and laptops used for non work-related purposes, or to provide software or hardware for personal use. We also cannot support hardware purchased without our authorization and without maintenance contracts.
Laptop Support
Faculty and staff laptops provided by MET are pre-configured upon delivery. For personal laptops If you are new to SMG, you should wait until arriving on campus to configure your laptop. Necessary accounts will become available to you when you arrive.
Printers
MET IT install and support shared high-speed network printers in every MET department and/or work area.
Personal printers will be purchased and installed only if requested by Department Chairs/Directors with proper justification. When requesting personal printer exceptions, please consider significantly higher ongoing operational costs for these printers.
Wireless
General information on Wireless network at BU can be found at http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/wireless/.
Currently MET provides wireless connection in PC labs and CS department at 808 Comm. Ave.
Labs
Metropolitan College operates five pc laboratories located at 808 Commonwealth Avenue, second floor (617-358-0014) and one lab at SHA-928 Commonwealth Ave., first floor.

Email
In addition to ACS email accounts provided by OIT (617-353-7272), MET College offers Microsoft Exchange services to all full-time faculty and staff. These accounts hosted by University Information Systems and provide email, calendaring and scheduling, public folders, contact lists, to-do lists, tasks, etc.
To get an Exchange account, please email your request with the first name, last name and BU ID number to METIT@BU.EDU. After you receive the confirmation for us, you need to complete two steps:
- Register at http://www.bu.edu/computing/accounts/ad/dee (you will need your BU ID, BU login name and Kerberos password to complete the registration).
- Change your BU electronic PH entry to direct all your mail to Exchange mail services
- Go to http://www.bu.edu/directory
- Click on Change Your Entry in the drop-down menu;
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Login to BU Electronic Directory”
- Login using BU Login name and Kerberos password
- When the Account Information Page loads change the email entry to yourname@ad2.bu.edu
- Click on the Update Listing button
- Click on Confirm Changes
Your account will be available within 1 hour.
To connect to your email via web: HTTPS://XMSWEB.BU.EDU
HOW TO CONNECT TO MET SERVER PRINTERS and EXCHANGE
- Install VPN client following the instructions at: http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/vpn/vpn5-install.html
- Once VPN client installed, double click the VPN client icon on your desktop or, if it is not on your desktop, go to START-PROGRAMS-CISCO SYSTEMS VPN CLIENT- VPN CLIENT, and login using your BU login name and Kerberos password.
- Once you are connected, you need to map two drives (it is a one time procedure)
- Map your home directory:
Right click on My Computer and select Map Network Drive option
In the Drive option select H:
In the Folder option type: \\MET-FS.BU.EDU\HOME$
Make sure Reconnect at logon is checked and click Finish. - Map your departmental share:
Right click on My Computer and select Map Network Drive option
In the Drive option select K:
In the Folder option type: \\MET-FS.BU.EDU\DATA$
Make sure Reconnect at logon is checked and click Finish. - To connect to your departmental printer go to:
Start-Settings-Printers and Faxes-Add a printer-Next-select A network printer- select Connect to this printer and in the Name field put:
\\MET-FS.BU.EDU\MET-YOURPRINTER
Click Next-Next-Finish
Once you connected to BU through VPN you can also configure your local Outlook:
Double click your outlook icon and follow the instructions.
Choose Microsoft Exchange Server for the Server Type
For Exchange Server settings select XMS3.BU.EDU
For the User name type in your BU login name and click Check Name
Click Next and Finish.To open your archives after you configured your outlook:
Inside outlook go to File-Open-Outlook Data File and in the File name field browse to your archives (on your H: drive inside outlook or archive folder a file with the extension .PST) and click OK. YOu should see it in your mailbox now.
If your Outlook is already configured for other email services, email METIT@BU.EDU for instructions.
