Oracle Setup Instructions

1. Install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on your computer

Download and run the Virtual PC 2007 installation [30 MB].
Follow the installation directions on the screen to install Virtual PC.

2. Install WinZip on your computer

Download and run the Winzip installation [12 MB].
Follow the installation directions on the screen to install WinZip111.

3. Copy the image file from the DVD

Download the zipped DVD Image File (Oracle10gR2-XP.zip) [2435 MB].

Create a directory on your hard drive (C:\VPC).

Double click Oracle10gR2-XP.zip file and extract it to the folder you created (C:\VPC).

Download OracleVMC.zip [3 KB] and extract Oracle.vmc to the same directory (C:\VPC).

4. Install New Virtual Machine

Start Virtual PC program (Start-Programs-Microsoft Virtual PC).

New Virtual Machine Wizard will start - click "Next"

Select "Create a virtual machine" option and click "Next"

Choose the name for your Virtual PC ("ORACLE")

Click Browse and navigate to the folder on your hard drive that you created ("C:\VPC")

Click "Open" to select this location and save

Select your Operating system (WinXP)

Choose "Adjusting the RAM"

Select "An existing virtual hard disk" option

Browse to navigate to the virtual hard disk (*.VHD file) you copied into "VPC" folder

Select "Oracle10gR2-XP.VHD" file and click "Open"

Enable undo disks (optional-allows you to save or discard changes you made to the system before you shut down you Virtual PC) and click "Next" and "Finish"

5. Starting your Virtual Machine

In the Virtual PC Console window you will see the Virtual Machine you just created ("Oracle Not running")

Click on Settings, select Memory and allocate as much of available memory as system will allow you and click OK.

If you have 1 GB of physical memory or less - you can set half of that for the Virtual Machine.
If you have more then 1GB of memory, you can allocate 1 GB for your Virtual Machine).

Click "Start" on the Virtual PC Console to start your Virtual Machine.

6. Login to Virtual Machine

user name: METSTUDENT
password: Bost0n (with a zero instead of second O)

7. Login to SQLPlus, iSQLPlus and Oracle Ent Mngr

user name: system
password: met0racle (with a zero instead of O)
