For the last two decades, computers have transformed our daily lives.
We seek information on the Web, write to our friends by
e-mail, bank online, and shop on the Internet. In subtler ways,
the science of computing has also changed our intellectual world:
biological organisms “process information” and neuroscience
investigates the “computing” brain. That machines
can think is not unthinkable anymore.
The Department of Computer Science at Boston University’s Metropolitan College is committed to teaching the latest technologies within the framework of ideas, concepts, and methods that drive innovation. We consider this dual emphasis on technical skills and theoretical knowledge key to remaining in the forefront of the information technology field. Today the convergence of computer networks, telephone, cable, and novel wireless technologies is reinventing telecommunication. It is not difficult to see that we are in the wake of a globalization of communications unparalleled in human history. It is also evident that multidisciplinary knowledge and lifelong learning are becoming necessities of professional life. Our graduate programs are designed to give the dedicated professional an opportunity to update or acquire new knowledge while pursuing a full-time career. |
Courses are offered evenings and weekends at
Boston University’s Charles River, Downtown, and Tyngsboro
campuses. Students can pursue a master’s degree in computer
science, computer information systems, or telecommunication, or
opt for the shorter graduate certificate programs. All courses
completed within the graduate certificate programs are credited
toward the master’s degree. This allows students to flexibly
gauge their time commitment and course of study.
Our department also offers extensive graduate advising to help students select the subjects and time frame best suited to their individual needs and interests. Modern information technology has acquired the sophistication of maturity while retaining the innovative pace of its youth – a challenging and invigorating experience to be a part of. Our best wishes as you continue your education. Lou Chitkushev, PhD |
